Activated Charcoal is a fine, black, carbon-rich powder that has been processed at extremely high temperatures, making it extremely porous. The more porous the charcoal is, the better it can absorb toxins and excess oils from the body. It’s basically a super powerful detoxifying sponge! In fact, it works so well, it’s been used as an antidote to poisons since the 18th century. Here at Cleo+Coco, our activated charcoal is made from coconut shells and used in our deodorant products to absorb the bacteria that causes odor, as well as wetness and oil, without harming your body. Your body is meant to detoxify, adding the charcoal just helps you body do so, odorlessly!
Arrowroot Powder is a natural starch extracted from the root of a tropical plant and can frequently be found in the kitchen as a gluten-free, vegan alternative to flour or cornstarch. Unlike cornstarch, however, arrowroot is extracted without using any chemicals. Arrowroot powder has oil and wetness-absorbing properties which is why its a key ingredient in both our Dry Shampoo+Body Powder and our Deodorants.
Otherwise known as Volcanic Ash, Bentonite Clay is rich in minerals like magnesium, calcium and iron- all things your body craves. It’s been medically proven to absorb dirt and oil on the skin, leaving you smelling fresh and clean all day. We use it in most of our products at Cleo+Coco because it is so full of healthy minerals that nurture your body. It can be found working wonders in our natural deodorants and Dry Shampoo+Body Powder and our newest scent free, Coconut Cleanse, Face+Body Bar.
You may know coconut oil as a superfood that claims to do a little bit of everything- boost your brain power, increase your heart health, and even reduce stress levels! But did you know that studies have shown its benefits may extend to your skin and hair?
Coconut oil is an organic oil derived from pressing the meat of a coconut. It’s said to increase hair shine and lock in moisture in the skin. Coconut oil is antibacterial, and very soothing. It’s also the reason our deodorants glide on so smoothly.
Shea butter is an organic fat extracted from the nut of the Shea tree. It has a high concentration of vitamins and fatty acids perfect for conditioning and smoothing your skin. These vitamins penetrate the skin, adding rich moisture while also serving as an anti-inflammatory. Slathering Shea butter onto the body is like taking a bath in luxury. That’s why you can find it in Cleo+Coco’s natural deodorants as well as each of our Cleansing Bars. Shea Butter which is why leave you not only deeply clean but deeply nurtured, soft and supple too.
We have come a long way from aluminum anti-perspirants that compromise your health and underarm perfumes, aka, synthetic fragrance to mask odor. Synthetic fragrances are considered by many to be a leading cause of migraines and hormone disruption. It is also used as a catch all in ingredient lists for less than natural ingredients that a brand may not want to admit is in their products. So be wary of any natural product that contains 'fragrance' as an ingredient.

Essential Oils come from extracting the oils from plants, either through steam distillation or cold press.
